One of the best ways to save money when buying fitness machines, is purchasing refurbished fitness equipment. Refurbished units provide the same workout benefits as brand new machines at only a fraction of the cost. These machines may be pre-owned, but they are refurbished back to their original, perfect condition. Plus, most are covered with warranties and product support, which make them a more practical purchase than pre-owned, non-refurbished machines.

Certain things should be observed, though, before buying refurbished fitness equipment. As these machines have already been used, you should always test the machines before making any purchases. With treadmills and elliptical machines, for example, try taking them for a test run. Its body should be sturdy and stable enough to accommodate your weight and the nature of your workout program, and it should not wobble when it is being used.

On treadmills, motors are a vital component and normally dictate their prices. The best treadmills use the best motors in the industry, so, choose a machine that is equipped with a motor that delivers consistent, quiet, and smooth operation. Another treadmill component that you should check thoroughly is the treadmill belt. Check the quality of the belt as it should be in good condition and durable enough to perform quietly and smoothly.

A working console is next on the list. Its electronic features should be working properly, especially the most important functions, such as the heart rate monitoring device. You should also make sure that all of the buttons are working and the digital controls and settings are functioning flawlessly.

Safety is yet another thing to consider when buying a pre-owned machine, especially when there are children around the house or any individuals who are not fit to use the machine. Some safety features for treadmills may include hand rails, emergency shut-off systems, and safety locks.

The most obvious reason for buying a used treadmill is to help you save money. You can save thousands of dollars by going with a used or a refurbished treadmill rather than buying new. But if you don’t know what your doing you’ll end up with a lemon and in the long run (no pun intended) you’ll spend more money.

Just like buying a used car you won’t just want to base your decision fully on price. You need to make sure the treadmill has the features you want and that it is in great working condition.

What You Need To Look For Before Buying A Used Treadmill

1. Always Go For A Test Run: You may find a great deal in the classifieds or online somewhere. Don’t even think about purchasing a used treadmill unless you have tested the machine. Don’t just walk on it–workout on it. This way you’ll be able to hear or see if there is a potential problem.

2. Treadmill Body: Make sure the treadmill is durable. If you get a cheap plastic machine it will not last long. Make sure it is long enough for you to run at full stride.

3. Safety: If you have children in the house make sure the machine can only be turned on with a key. Some people think that having an emergency stop button is not necessary. Those people are wrong! Make sure you have a stop button or some kind of emergency stop function. All it takes is one accident to regret that you didn’t get this feature.

4. Good Condition Motor: Listen to the motor. Is it too loud? Get a motor that is quiet. If the treadmill is skipping while you work out on it then that is a red flag that the motor is bad. Don’t buy it. Have someone who is familiar with treadmill mechanics look the machine over.

<div style=”display:block;float:left;margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px;”>

5. Treadmill Console: Make sure all the buttons are working. Make sure you can see all of the digital settings and controls. There are many features. Just make sure you get the features that are most important to you.

6. Check the Incline: You will most likely be using the treadmill to simulate uphill and downhill workouts. Test the incline and decline while you run to make sure it still works.

If you follow these simple steps you’ll be able to find a great treadmill for a fraction of the price. Good luck.
